CONCEPT

For centuries, a work of art has been understood as a complete and autonomous object.

L∞ proposes a different model.

The project considers painting not as an isolated work, but as part of a unified artistic system in which each painting retains its individuality while existing in relation to the others.

Here, the artwork is defined not only by its material presence, but also by the network of relationships that connects all eight works into a single conceptual structure.

L∞ explores the possibility of painting functioning as one artistic organism expressed through eight independent forms.

IDEA

The project begins with a simple question:

Can a painting exist simultaneously as a physical object and as part of a larger conceptual system?

L∞ proposes that the meaning of each work extends beyond its own boundaries.

Every painting remains complete in itself, yet acquires additional significance through its relationship with the others.

Meaning emerges not only from the individual image, but from the structure that unites all eight works.

LEMNISCATA

The lemniscate is known as the mathematical form of infinity.

Within L∞, it is not used as a symbol.

It becomes the structural principle of the project.

Continuity is expressed not through repetition, but through the constant relationship between all the works.

A mathematical form is thus transformed into an artistic methodology.

STRUCTURE

The project consists of eight original paintings.

Each work occupies a unique position within the system while maintaining its own artistic autonomy.

Together, the eight paintings form a single conceptual structure.

Removing one work alters the integrity of the whole, because every element exists in relation to the others.

INDEX

Each painting is assigned its own Index.

The Index is not a title.

It identifies the work’s unique position within the L∞ system and records its place in the overall structure.

Each painting therefore possesses both an independent identity and a defined relationship to the complete work.

THE NUMBER EIGHT

Eight is not a symbolic reference.

It is the architectural principle of the project.

The number of works is intentionally fixed.

The structure, relationships and internal logic of L∞ exist only in their complete configuration of eight paintings.

The number therefore functions as a structural necessity rather than a symbolic motif.

SIGNIFICANCE OF THE PROJECT

L∞ proposes a way of understanding painting as an interconnected system rather than a collection of individual works.

The project brings together geometric thought, the perception of time, and contemporary painting within a single conceptual framework.

Its purpose is not to represent infinity as an image, but to investigate how a work of art can preserve the individuality of its parts while existing as one unified structure.

In this sense, L∞ exists at the intersection of painting, conceptual art, and the study of the artwork as a coherent artistic system.

SPACE

L∞ is conceived as a unified spatial installation.

The eight paintings are intended to be experienced together as a single artistic statement.

The exhibition space therefore becomes an active component of the work rather than merely its physical setting.

ABOUT THE AUTHOR

ROMANOZ is a contemporary artist whose practice explores painting as a conceptual and spatial medium beyond the traditional understanding of the autonomous canvas.

Throughout his artistic career, he has investigated themes of time, transformation, space, and the relationship between the material and the immaterial.

L∞ represents the culmination of this ongoing research.

The project approaches painting not only as a visual image, but as a self-contained artistic system in which meaning arises through the relationships between works rather than from each work in isolation.
